One of the two top-shelf wines of the Abadia de Poblet winery, a brand of Grupo Codorníu, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada is arguably the best varietal Trepat wine produced in DO Conca de Barberà, the cradle of the variety.
This remarkable Spanish red wine is sourced exclusively from La Font Voltada, a terraced vineyard with different sun orientations composed of clay-limestone soils. One of the oldest Trepat vineyards in the region, it is located between the villages of Sarral and Montbrió de la Marca.
Hand-harvested in late October - bear in mind that Trepat is a late-ripening variety - the grapes were fermented whole bunch with native yeasts in concrete diposits under controlled temperature. After that, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada 2018 was aged for 14 months in 600-litre used oak barrels.
It is adivsable to gently aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
Pair this red wine from Conca de Barberà with cold meats, medium-aged cheeses and roast recipes.
