The wine Aiurri is the mid-level Spanish red wine of bodega Aiurri (meaning “character” in the Basque language), the new and much-awaited project in DOCa Rioja of the prestigious Alma Carraovejas group from DO Ribera del Duero.
A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Grenache and other white varieties, the grapes were sourced from six organically grown parcels with different sun expositions, mainly composed of loamy soils with a high limestone content. All are located near the village of Leza, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. This is thus a village wine.
The grapes were hand-harvested, selected on site and then selected twice at grape reception. Each parcel was individually vinified in French oak vats and concrete diposits. After completing a spontaneous fermentation, each batch was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels of different capacities.
Then this Crianza red wine was blended and aged for a further 3 months in concrete diposits. The red wine Aiurri 2021 was clarified with egg whites before being bottled in the spring of 2023.
Aerate this red wine from La Rioja some time before drinking.
