The red wine Landua is one of the three debut releases of bodega Aiurri (meaning “character” in the Basque language), the much-awaited DOCa Rioja project of the prestigious Alma Carraovejas group from Ribera del Duero.
This blended Spanish red wine is made from Tempranillo, Graciano, Grenache and other white varieties, sourced from organically farmed parcels located between the villages of Sonsierra and Laguardia, sheltered by the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The area is geologically diverse and has an Atlantic climate with Mediterranean influences that helps the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily.
The parcels were hand-harvested from September 21 to October 2 and the grapes fermented spontaneously in French oak vats and concrete diposits. After that, the wine from San Vicente was aged for 9 months in French oak vats and oak barrels; the wine from Lezo spent 12 months in French oak barrels.
After making the final blend, the red wine Aiurri Landua 2021 was aged for a further 5 months in concrete diposits. This red wine from La Rioja was bottled in the spring of 2023
Finally, this Crianza red wine was kept in the cellar for about 12 months before hitting the market.
