Product Description
Details

Owned by the Eguren family, one of Spain's most renowned wine dinasties, the Teso La Monja winery from DO Toro has gained increasing international prestige thanks to the production of world-class wines such as Alabaster.

This one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine is made from pre-phylloxeric, over 100-year-old Tinta de Toro vineyards.

Comitted to environmentally friendly agricultural practices, and followers of the principles of byodinamic farming, winemaker Marcos Eguren and his team used no herbicides or pesticides during the production of this wine.

Harvested by hand, the grapes went through an exacting selection process in order to preserve only the absolute best of them. The "surviving" grapes were cold-soaked for 14 days, after which this red wine from Toro was fermented in open vats.

Crushed by foot, the juice was gently pumped over the top of the skin cap several times during the process. Then Alabaster 2019 was transferred into new French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 18 months.

We stongly recommend that you decant this Crianza red wine for a minimum of 2 hours before you drink it.

Production around 4,000 bottles.

Appearance

The red wine Alabaster is deep purple with some bluish and indigo reflections.

Nose

Incredibly rich on the nose, this varietal Tinta de Toro suggests the purest aromas of black fruit over a background of wet earth and violets, with hints of menthol, Moroccan leather, cedar, vanilla, incense, black truffles and some mineral and earthy undertones. Makes one's head -and nose- spin!

Palate

Big-boned and full-bodied, this is one of the best expressions of the Tinta de Toro variety available on the market. Wooden sensations, pristine flavours of blackberries and crème de cassis, delicate notes of blue and red flowers, deep mineral undertones, some chewy tannins, and a great acidity to sustain its hefty structure. This wine from Teso La Monja has certainly left us in awe.

Our personal opinion

Regal and bold, but also deep and elegant. Alabaster 2019 is a wine for demanding drinkers. Significant ageing potential.

Alabaster
Value
This is not a cheap wine, that's for sure. However, underneath the arches there is a marvel of elegance and subtlety. Quite impressive, considering that it will reach its peak in 5-7 years.
