Product Description
Details

Produced by the Gil Family through the Bodegas Atalaya brand, Alaya Tierra comes from southwestern Spanish region of Almansa.

A rare varietal Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet), this Spanish red wine is made from very old vines grown in sandy-limestone soils at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level.

After a meticulous manual harvest, the grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation was carried out in new French and American oak barrels. After that, Alaya Tierra 2021 was aged in the barrels for over a period of 15 months.

Decant this Crianza red wine no less than 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Alaya Tierra is deep purple with a purple rim.

Nose

This uncommon varietal Alicante Bouschet exhibits an impressive range of aromas, beginning with lively notes of wild berries, hints of vanilla, cocoa, and Mediterranean herbs, and some tips of tobacco and withered leaves over a background reminiscent of chalk, mineral and dry earth.

Palate

This wine of Bodegas Atalaya is meaty and bold. Ripe black fruit, toast, smoke and spices underpinned by some mineral and earthy notions. The wine conveys a deep sense of terroir, enlivened by a fresh acidity, some yummy tannins and long finish. It is dense and massive, but at the same time spirited and alive.

Our personal opinion

Quintessentially Mediterranean, Alaya Tierra 2021 is exuberant, age-worthy and well-priced. This vegan wine should evolve nicely in the bottle.

Pure Bliss!
Value
When I thought I was broadening my wine knowledge and experience, I have in fact been narrowing it over the last 5 years!!!! Most of what's at the top of my list is rooted in the Chris Ringland/Juan Gil collaboration. There will be purists who will say....too fruit forward.....too jammy.... but for me this is near as good as it gets!!!!!

WOW

WOW!! This is really incredible. The darkest colour I've seen in a wine. It is incredibly concentrated and massive. The texture is chewey, but the best thing is, surprisingly, that the wine is amazingly profound and enjoyable. Super-complex and rich, I think it will grow in the bottle for the next 5 o 7 years.
