White Wine Allende Blanco 2020
Availability: In stock
Winemaker Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, head of Finca Allende, is one of the top players in the current La Rioja wine scene. The wine Allende Blanco is one of his best creations. An age-worthy Spanish white wine made basically from Viura and a dollop of Malvasía (5%).
Grown following environmentally friendly procedures, the grapes come from vineyards with an average age of 55 years. Planted in different kinds of soils with different solar orientations, the grapevines are located in area that surrounds the facilities of the winery in the town of Briones, Rioja.
The harvest of this white wine from La Rioja was carried out manually. Carefully selected in the cellar, the grapes were subsequently crushed and drawn off, after which the free-run juice was transferred into French oak barrels and aged for 15 months.
The wine Allende Blanco 2020 was kept for some months in contact with its lees, which were stirred twice a week. After that, the wine was racked and aged without the lees. The wine was gently filtered prior to being bottled. Then it was kept for over 2 years in the cellar before hitting the market.
Pair this Crianza white wine with white meat, baked fish and creamy and semi-hard cheeses.
Appearance | The wine Allende Blanco is medium yellow with golden tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Subtle aromas of white frute and spices, combined with hints peach, medlar and greengage plum. This blend of Viura and Malvasía has a deeply mineral character, with some flinty and chalky notes reminiscent of a premium Chablis. Once again, winemaker Miguel Ángel de Gregorio shows his masterful touch. |
Palate | This wine of bodega Finca Allende is nuanced, gently unctuous and somewhat elusive, with a restrained elegance, a tangy acidity and a linear, laser-like character. This is by no means a showy wine, but rather one that takes its time to show its hidden niceties and complexities. Citrusy and gently herbal, with a chalky minerality and a very long finish. |
Our personal opinion | The characterful wine Allende Blanco 2020 is an exquisite white Rioja that winks at Burgundy. |
