Red Wine Almirez 2021
Availability: In stock
After a distinguished career in La Rioja, the brothers Marcos and Miguel Eguren decided to expand into the Toro region. To that effect, they created the Teso La Monja winery, the producer of Almirez.
A varietal Tinta de Toro, this Spanish red wine is crafted from a blend of young vines - clones developed from ungrafted root-stock - and old vines up to 70 years of age. All of the vines are grown following environmentally friendly procedures and biodynamic practices in order to minimize human intervention.
The vines are planted in north-oriented soils composed of clay, limestone and gravel. Climate is continental.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented using indigenous yeasts. Then Almirez 2021 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 14 months in 30% new and 70% used French oak barrels.
Decant this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Almirez is deep purple with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Aromas of black currants and bilberries, cocoa, toast and tobacco. Ever-evolving, this varietal Tinta de Toro also brings aromas of violets, lavender, liquorice and balsam, nuanced by dim mineral notes. |
Palate | This wine from Teso La Monja is smooth, deep and certainly livelier than previous vintages. Crunchy tannins, well-balanced acidity and a long, persistent finish with some remembrances of wild berries, dry earth, balsam and spices. |
Our personal opinion | The delicious Almirez 2021 is a nice value from Toro. |
