Produced by bodegas Artadi, the wine Artadi La Poza de Ballesteros is one of the most accessible and inviting of the all the Vinos Singulares bottlings, a collection aimed at capturing the remarkable terroir diversity of Rioja Alavesa.
This varietal Tempranillo comes from a 1.18-hectare vineyard composed of loamy soils with deeper layers of sand and calcium carbonate. Planted in 1960 near the village of Elvillar de Álava, the east-oriented vineyard is tended with organic farming techniques.
Hand-harvested and meticulously selected, the grapes were first cold-macerated for 1 or 2 days. Then this Spanish red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 to 12 days, with periodic pump-overs and punch-downs of the solid skin cap.
After that, this Crianza red wine was transferred into French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.
The red wine Artadi La Poza de Ballesteros 2021 was bottled in May 2023.
