Red Wine Artuke Finca de Los Locos 2021
Availability: In stock
Produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Artuke, one of the pioneers of the so-called "new Rioja", Artuke Finca de Los Locos is a single parcel Spanish red wine made from 80% Tempranillo and 20% Graciano.
The name of the wine, which could be translated as "The Mad Men Estate", has an interesting story behind it. In 1950, the grandfather of Arturo and Kike de Miguel, the current owners of the winery, bought a parcel at 550 metres of altitude, called Paraje Peñaescalera. Located in a remote area of La Rioja in which no one had ever thought of planting vines, the locals said that the idea of doing such thing was utter madness. That is how The Mad Men Estate was born.
The first vines were planted in the 1980s. A few years later, the winemakers found, in a twist of poetic justice, that the quality of the grapes coming from the Mad Men estate was unparalleled in the region.
This remarkable Spanish red wine was vinified in a traditional manner. Meticulously harvested, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks. After that, malolactic fermentation took place in 500-litre oak barrels, where the wine was also aged for over a period of 16 months.
Before its bottling, Artuke Finca de los Locos 2021 was gently filtered.
The production of this organic red wine is around 9,000 bottles.
Decant this Rioja red wine 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The wine Artuke Finca de los Locos is deep ruby with a bright garnet rim and some violet tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries, characteristic of the Tempranillo variety. Some mineral notes, hints of toast and cocoa and touches of clove and vanilla. In the background, some floral hints, a Graciano trademark, accompanied by some undergrowth remembrances. |
Palate | Packed with information and still in the process of harmonizing its parts, this wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Artuke is fresh, focused and characteristic. Sappy dark fruit and intense minerality, with crunchy tannins, a steely acidity and long finish with a note of tea leaves, lavender and ink. |
Our personal opinion | A terroir-driven Rioja with good ageing potential, Artuke Finca de Los Locos 2021 will be a great match for a seared duck breast or a "cochinillo" (roast suckling pig). |
