Product Description
Details

First produced in 1986, this high-end Spanish red wine is a modern La Rioja classic crafted by the Marqués de Riscal winery.

Originally, the idea behind Barón de Chirel Reserva was to craft a first-class, modern-style product from the oldest vines of the winery.

The wine is mainly produced from Tempranillo, complemented by other red varieties, as it is customary in the region. The vines, 80 to over 110 years old, are located in Elciego and Laguardia, between 450 and 550 metros above sea level.

Made only in exceptional vintages, the grapes were harvested by hand and vinified in French wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in fine-grained French oak vats, after which this Reserva red wine was transferred into Allier oak barrels and aged for 16 months.

Finally, the wine was aged for a minimum of two years in the bottle prior to its release.

Decant the red wine Barón de Chirel Reserva 2019 1 hour minimum before drinking.

This Rioja red wine has a remarkable ageing potential.

Appearance

The red wine Barón de Chirel Reserva is deep purple with a crimson rim.

Nose

This blend of old-vines Tempranillo and other varieties has a spectacular, ever-evolving nose. There are explosive aromas of blueberry pie, amarena cherries, boysenberries and mulberries, with toasted nuances, some mineral undertones, floral hints, and remembrances of balsam, tobacco, bitter cocoa and withered leaves, intertwined with a note of graphite and charcoal.

Palate

This wine of bodega Barón de Chirel is extremely refined and voluptuous. Moreover, it shows a rock-solid structure and impressive precision. The palate is reminiscent of mulberries and cranberries, with some vegetal notions, Moroccan leather, clove, cinnamon, dry earth, rose and violet petals and Havanna cigars. Delightfully complex, with mellow tannins and a very long finish.

Our personal opinion

The wine Barón de Chirel Reserva 2019 is spellbinding.

This wine has the elegance of a great Bordeaux and the flesh of a great Australian wine.

This wine is dark and deep as a black hole. It is warm and dense, and is incredibly sophisticated and refined on the palate. The flavours make my head spin, and the ending is maybe the longest I've experienced. Right now Chirel is terrific, but if I were you I would store it for some time.
