Details

One of the best varietal Pinot Noir wines from Spain, the red wine Bassus Pinot Noir is produced by Bodegas Hispano Suizas from vineyards with clay-limestone soils situated at 700 metres of altitude, in DO Utiel- Requena, Valencia.

Hand-harvested at dawn, the grapes underwent a pre-fermentation maceration (aka cold soak) for 3 days at -10ºC. Then the grapes were destemmed and transferred into 400-litre French oak barrels equipped with cooling plates. This Spanish red wine was then cold macerated for 4 days, during which period the solid skin cap was punched down on a daily basis.

After that, the cooling plates were disabled in order to kickstart alcoholic fermentation, at the end of which the wine Bassus Pinot Noir 2022 was gently pressed and transferred into 300-litre French oak barrels from Allier. After maturing for 10 months in the barrels, the wine was gently filtered prior to bottling.

A versatile Pinot Noir, you can pair this red wine from Utiel-Requena with semi-hard cheeses, oily fish recipes and even meat recipes.

Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.

Nose

Very appealing, this varietal Pinot Noir conveys primary notes typical of the variety, such as wild berries, violets and a gamey note, with delicate spicy notes and suggestions of Mediterranean herbs and dry earth.
