PARKER: PRIORAT AND HIGHLIGHTS FROM CATALONIA

The latest two articles published by Mr. Luis Gutiérrez in Robert Parker Wine Advocate are quite interesting.

The first reviews several highlights from all over Catalonia.

The second dives deep into DOQ Priorat.

After reading both pieces, we have prepared a list of 10 wines with 90+ Parker ratings. Namely, 4 reds, 3 whites and 3 Cavas.

Let's begin with the red wines.

From the heart of Montsant, Les Comes d'Orto 2015 is an intense, characterful wine produced by the renowned winemaker Joan Asens. Parker 91.

Stepping to the nearby Priorat, the telluric Etern 15 is a remarkable blend of centenary vineyards produced by Albert Jané. Parker 92.

The great Álvaro Palacios is the author of Les Terrasses 2016, an age-worthy, finely crafted red which got a score of Parker 92-94.

Still in the region, Martinet Bru 16 is an organic wine produced by Josep Lluís y Sara Pérez, a team of father and daughter that has played a leading role in Priorat's modern history. Parker 92+.

Now let's have a look at the white wines.

An example of Mediterranean finesse, Gran Caus Blanc 16 is a blend of local and international varieties produced in the limestone soils of Massís del Garraf, not far from the chic coastal town of Sitges. Parker 90.

From Costers del Segre, Ekam 17 is an exultantingly pure wine with a great future. Raúl Bobet, one of the world's top oenologists, certainly did a great job with this one. Parker 93.

Another wine by the inquisitive Sara Pérez, Dido Blanc 16 is an organic white wine that conveys the deep spirit of Montsant. Parker 93.

We finish with three top-notch Cavas.

Following the guidelines of biodynamic farming, the Recaredo winery produces the pristine Recaredo Terrers Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2012 from a traditional blend. Parker 91.

On a par with the former, Celler Gramona presents two very different sparklers.

Gramona Argent Gran Reserva Brut 2012, a creamy single varietal Chardonnay.  Parker 91+.

Gramona Gran Reserva Brut Nature III Lustros 2009, a precise, extremely fresh blend of traditional varieties. Parker 92+.
