Details

The wine Clos Dominic Vinyes Altes is made from centenary vineyards grown in the town of Porrera, DOQ Priorat

This impressive Spanish red wine is made from a traditional blend of Carignan and Grenache, the one that best expresses the dark, intriguing quality of the world-class Priorat soil.

The ancient vines are planted on steep slopes on the highest area (Vinyes Altes) of a vineyard called Finca La Tena. The soils are composed of decomposed slate (the legendary llicorella), and yield an extremely low quantity of 800 grams of fruit per plant.

Besides that, the Clos Dominic winery practices an environmentally friendly agriculture and follows a policy of minimal intervention, as far as the winemaking process is concerned.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were meticulously vinified and aged for 16-18 months in mostly new French oak barrels. The wine Clos Dominic Vinyes Altes 2021 was only gently filtered prior to its bottling, and it was further aged for 6 months before its commercial release.

A wine with a considerable lifespan, we emphatically suggest that, if you desire to enjoy this Priorat red wine now, you decant it for at least 3 hours before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Clos Dominic Vinyes Altes is deep purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

This blend of Carignan and Grenache is deep, multilayered and quite impressive. Aromas of ripe black and red fruit, some toasted notes, hints of vanilla and clove, a surprising floral note, a dash of balsamic aromas and black pepper, and some profound, resounding, ever-evolving mineral undertones.

Palate

This red wine of Clos Dominic is really something. An almost ideal balance between an amazing freshness and a tremendous horsepower. Loads of ripe fruit seasoned with herbs de Provence, with some oaky notes that will integrate even better with the wine over the next years, and an underlying mineral layer that is a true delight. Velvety tannins, crisp acidity and very long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

The superb wine Clos Dominic Vinyes Altes 2021 will improve substantially in the bottle over the next years.

Top Priorat!!

Absolutely first-class Priorat, with a depth to die for. I don't give it 5 stars only because it is still too young.

Thank God there is a winery who continues to produce their wines in a traditional way!! Unbelievably deep and mineral wine, at times literally heart-stopping. Marvelous.

A full-blown, ultra-mineral Priorat. Deep and dark as the Mariana trench. Fa-bu-lous wine.
