Product Description
Details

One of DOCa Rioja's all-time classics, the wine Contino Reserva is made from a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 6% Graciano, 6% Grenache and 2% Mazuela (aka Carignan).

The grapes come solely from the Viñedos del Contino estate. Located in Laserna, in the heart of La Rioja Alavesa, the château-style winery comprises 62 hectares of vineyards around an old manor house.

Meticulously harvested and selected, once in the cellar the grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete tanks at a temperature between 28ºC and 30ºC. Then this Spanish red wine was transferred into American (5%) and French (95%) oak barrels, where this red wine from La Rioja remained for 18 months.

Bottled in May 2023, the wine Contino Reserva 2020 was aged for 12+ months in the cellar prior to its commercial release.

We suggest that you decant this Reserva red wine 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Contino Reserva is deep ruby with a claret rim.

Nose

Understated and confident, this blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuela and Grenache suggests subtle notes of wild berries and hints of clove, vanilla and cinnamon, evolving into toffee, withered vegetables and mineral. There is a background of black truffle and fine Moroccan leather.

Palate

This wine of Viñedos del Contino, a branch of Grupo CVNE, is lush and textured, with dim toasted notes, sweet spices and fresh notes of balsam, alongside fresh flavours of red fruit. Ripe, sweet tannins and well-balanced acidity. Long, subtle finish with some remembrances of dry earth, smoke and spices.

Our personal opinion

The wine Contino Reserva 2020 feeds the body and rejuvenates the soul.
