Details

The wine Alonso del Yerro is the entry-level red of bodega Alonso del Yerro, a family-run winery from DO Ribera del Duero.

This Spanish red wine is entirely sourced from Finca Santa Marta, a vineyard with different soil compositions at 800+ metres of altitude. The grapes were hand-picked in late September and went through a slow fermentation in tanks with a 8 to 15-day maceration.

After that, this red wine from Ribera del Duero was transferred into mostly used French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months.

Bottled in July 2021, the red wine Alonso del Yerro 2019 was stored for some years in the cellar before hitting the market.

Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Alonso del Yerro is medium purple with some ruby-coloured reflections.

Nose

This elegant Tempranillo from high-altitude vineyards carries aromas of boysenberries, mulberries and blackcurrants, with hints of pine needles and resin, a dash of clove and cardamom and notes of cocoa, smoke and fine tobacco.

Palate

This wine of bodega Alonso del Yerro winery has the typical balsamic freshness of Ribera reds, with succulent black fruit, a steely acidity and nice integration of oak. Vibrant and a tad austere, with sinewy tannins and some earthy undertones, ending with a spicy and chocolate-y finish.

Our personal opinion

The wine Alonso del Yerro 2019 is a dignified, savoury Ribera.
