Produced by Bodegas Torres, the wine Milmanda is one of the few Spanish Chardonnay wines which bears comparison with the great Chards from Burgundy and California.
This varietal Spanish white wine is sourced from vines grown in clay-limestone soils at 500 metres above seal level in DO Conca de Barberà, southern Catalonia. The vineyards are located near the Milmanda Castle, a medieval fortress that was used as a base by Christian knights during the Spanish Reconquista.
Somehow reversing the usual vinification process, the wine was fermented in 80% oak barrels and 20% oak vats for 2-3 weeks. To preserve the acidity, this white wine from Conca de Barberà did not went through malolactic fermentation.
Then the white wine Milmanda 2021 was transferred into half new 300-litre French oak barrels and 1,500-litre oak vats, where it was aged for 4 months. Then the wine was aged for another 12 months on lees. It was bottled in April 2023 and stored for some months before hitting the market.
Cherished by wine aficionados all over the world, this varietal Crianza white wine is one of Spain's best white wines. This should evolve nicely in the bottle.
