White Wine Dominio de Atauta Albillo Mayor 2021

“Like finding a needle in a haystack.” That’s how the Dominio de Atauta winery describes the process behind the creation of the wine Dominio de Atauta Albillo Mayor.

This remarkable Spanish white wine is made from Albillo Mayor, a variety indigenous to Ribera del Duero that in 2019 became the first white grape allowed for wine production by the DO Ribera del Duero regulatory board.

It is worth mentioning that this white wine from Ribera del Duero is sourced from pre-phylloxera vines with an average age of 138 years (!!). They are planted amidst a sea of red vines across the vineyards of La Mala, Valdegatiles and Llanos del Almendro, located at an altitude of 940 metres above sea level and composed of limestone, sandy and clayey soils.

Each Albillo vine was individually harvested, after which the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks using different techniques, like direct pressing or skin maceration à la orange wine. After completing alcoholic fermentation, the white wine Dominio de Atauta Albillo Mayor 2021 was transferred into 600-litre used oak barrels and aged on lees for 5 months.

This is a small-batch Crianza white wine. Only 2,724 bottles produced.
