We are proud to present En Números Vermells Garnatxa Peluda wine, the most mysterious of the triad of top-tier varietal wines produced by bodega En Números Vermells, the personal project of Ms. Sílvia Puig, one of Priorat’s most talented female winemakers - although not as famous, one might argue, as some of her peers.
Made solely from Hairy Grenache (Garnatxa Peluda), a variant of Grenache indigenous to Catalonia with higher levels of natural acidity and a peculiarly elegant character, this Spanish red wine is sourced from a single vineyard composed of clay and slate soils located near Bellmunt del Priorat. The vineyard is planted with over 70-year-old vines that yield very small quantities of high-quality grapes.
Hand-harvested and carefully selected, the grapes were open fermented in 500- litre barrels. After that, this red wine from Priorat was aged for 14 months; the first 5 months in clay amphorae, and then in new and 2nd year oak barrels. Finally, En Números Vermells Garnatxa Peluda 2021 wine was gently filtered before being bottled.
It is of essence to decant this Crianza red wine at least 2 hours before drinking.
Truly a rare jewel, this single vineyard wine is one of the very few varietal Hairy Grenache wines produced in Priorat.
Only 901 bottles produced!
Appearance | The red wine En Números Vermells Garnatxa Peluda is deep purple with some ruby reflections. |

Nose | As is usually the case with Hairy Grenache wines, the nose exhibits the best qualities of Grenache, but none of its occasional excesses. There is definitely a lot of succulent fruit, but conveyed in a refined and subtle manner, never in-your-face, entwined with aromas of roses, violets and candied orange peel. There is also a rich, ever-evolving minerality, from dry earth to crushed wet rocks, combined with a splash of oriental spices and herbs de Provence. |
Palate | Despite the alcohol content, this wine of bodega En Números Vermells is remarkably balanced and poised, with layers upon layers of flavour, a complexity that becomes ever more aparent as the wine is exposed to air, and a linear, steely acidity which keeps everything in its place. Deeply mineral and floral, with plush tannins and a very long and elegant finish. |
