Red Wine Espelt Coma Bruna 2018
Availability: In stock
Coming from rugged, windswept DO Empordà, the wine Espelt Coma Bruna ranks among the best wines produced in that northern Catalan region.
This one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine is a varietal Carignan sourced from vineyards over 120 years of age - they were planted in 1901 - situated in the Albera mountain range, on the southern side of the Pyrenées.The soils are mainly composed of slate.
Produced by Celler Espelt, the vinification process of this red wine from L'Empordà was meticulous. After a manual harvesting and a careful selection, the grapes were cold soaked for 2 days and then fermented in stainless steel tanks for a couple of weeks at 25ºC with gentle pump-overs.
The malolactic fermentation of the wine Espelt Coma Bruna 2018 was carried out in 500 and 700-litre oak barrels, after which the wine was aged on lees for 13 months.
The wine was gently filtered and stabilized before bottling.
Decant this Crianza red wine a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Espelt Coma Bruna is medium purple with a garnet rim. |

Nose | Quite deep, this old-vines Carignan opens slowly, so some patience is required to fully enjoy it. Aromas of wild berries, bitter cocoa, menthol and garrigue, evolving into coffee, balsam and charcoal, with some earthy and mineral remembrances. |
Palate | Characteristic and intense, this wine from Celler Espelt is slightly bitter and deeply mineral, with flavours of bilberries and blackberrie framed by just the right amount of oak. Acidity is exceptional, with fine grained tannins and a very long finish. |
Our personal opinion | Dramatic and engaging, the wine Espelt Coma Bruna 2018 showcases the distinctive character of the Empordà region. |
