Product Description
Details

The exquisite red wine Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles - meaning "old vines" - is made from centenary Carignan and Grenache vineyards. Grown in Priorat for centuries, no varieties express the dry, dark soil of the region better than those two.

The 2019 vintage of this Spanish red wine from bodega Ferrer Bobet is a blend of 86% Carignan and 14% Grenache.

The grapes were picked by hand and, after a careful selection process, completed alcoholic fermentation in wooden and stainless steel tanks. Then the wine was put in fine grain, medium-light toasted French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 15 months.

As usual, the red wine Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles 2019 was neither clarified nor filtered, and spent a further 11 months in the bottle before its commercial release onto the market.

We strongly recommend that you decant this red wine from Priorat for 1 hour before you drink it.

Appearance

The wine Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles is medium purple with a violet rim.

Nose

This blend of old-vines Grenache and Carignan has a high aromatic intensity, beginning with jamy, lush fruits like blackcurrants, plums, raspberries and blackberries. We also find hints of spices -vanilla, clove and pepper- and balsamic aromas of cedar and sandalwood. Sophisticated floral aromas of violets in bloom take us for a moment to Burgundy, but the earthy, refreshing smell of llicorella, Priorat's trademark, soon bring us back home.

Palate

What a pleasure! This red wine from Ferrer Bobet has a suave texture, with loads for ripe fruit and a note of spices and bitter cocoa, underpinned by a refreshing black slate minerality. Taut and fresh, it has a rock-solid structure and savoury tannins. Long finish with notes of wild berries and flowers.

Our personal opinion

Who said Priorat only produces sturdy wines? The red wine Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles 2019 is nuanced and vibrant. A compelling expression of a magical place.
