Red Wine Finca Morenillo 2015
Availability: In stock
We are proud to present the new vintage of Finca Morenillo. This is not only the flagship Spanish red wine from bodega Celler Piñol, but also one of the most interesting wines from DO Terra Alta.
The wine is a varietal Morenillo, an indigenous variety that was on the verge of extinction not many years ago, and which is currently in the process of being recovered for wine production.
Located at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level, the over 100-year-old Morenillo vines are grown in clay-limestone soils with very low levels of organic matter.
The grapes were harvested in late October. Meticulously selected in the cellar, they were fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently transferred into new 500-litre French oak barrels. Finca Morenillo 2015 was then aged for 15 months.
After that, the wine was bottled and aged for a further 12 months.
This is a scarce, small-production wine with a unique personality.
Pair this red wine from Terra Alta with hearty recipes.
Appearance | The red wine Finca Morenillo is ruby-cherry with a violet rim. |

Nose | The nose of this varietal Morenillo is so rich it's almost intoxicating. Ripe blackberries, wild strawberries and blueberries, along with rosy pepper, liquorice, cinnamon and some floral and herbaceous overtones. On the background, notes of coffee, cocoa and dry earth. |
Palate | This red wine from Celler Piñol is medium-bodied, supple and very fresh. Elegantly restrained, with an excellent acidity and some crunchy tannins. Long finish with a note of flowers and red berries over a mineral background. |
Our personal opinion | The fascinating Finca Morenillo 2015 opens new vistas in the amazingly rich world of indigenous Spanish grape varieties. |
