Produced by Bodega Frontio, the wine project of Dane Thyge Benned Jensen, Follaco showcases the amazingly rich wine heritage of DO Arribes, an up-and-coming Spanish wine region located in the southern part of the Zamora province, right on the border with Portugal.
Made from 65% Tempranillo, this Spanish red wine is complemented with 25% Juan García, the main native variety of the region, and 10% Rufete and Bruñal, also local varieties. The vines, 15 to 100 years old, are planted in granite and quartz soils.
Hand-harvested and selected on site and in the premises, the four varieties were macerated together for 3 weeks before being fermented with native yeasts. Then this red wine from Arribes went through a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
Finally, Follaco 2021 was aged for 9 months in used French oak barrels, 7 to 12 years old. This is a low-sulphites red wine, incidentally.
Limited production.
