Red Wine Garnatxa de Cims de Porrera 2015

A varietal Grenache, Garnatxa de Cims de Porrera is one of the two flagship wines of the Cims de Porrera winery, the other one being the varietal Carignan Cims de Porrera Clàssic.
The grapes were sourced from 40 to 100-year-old vines, grown in the typical black and red slate soils which give the Priorat region its unique identity. The vineyards are owned by peasant families who work hand in hand with the company's winemaking team.
Picked by hand, the grapes were meticulously selected and fully destemmed. After that, this Spanish red wine was fermented in wooden vats with frequent punch-downs and pump-overs.
Finally, Garnatxa de Cims de Porrera 2015 was transferred into 225-litre French oak barrels, where it was aged for 16 months.
It is crucial to decant this Crianza red wine from Priorat a minimum of 2 hours before you drink it.
Appearance | The red wine Garnatxa de Cims de Porrera is bright garnet with some violet tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Very expressive and enticingly deep, this varietal Grenache suggests aromas of ripe strawberries and redcurrants, menthol, clove and cardamom over a hipnotizing mineral background. As the wine opens, we perceive aromas of smoke, lavender, dry earth and hints of chocolate and leather. |
Palate | This red wine of the Cims de Porrera winery combines a fruit-forward character with a dark, mineral side, resulting in a nice interplay. Oak is beginning to fully integrate, leaving space for a a stream of information: earthy notes, blue flowers, menthol, watery hints, and touches of liquor-infused black fruit and spices. Ripe tannins, tense acidity and a long, slightly bitter finish. |
Our personal opinion | A wine that greatly benefits from a prolonged decantation, Garnatxa de Cims de Porrera 2015 is, as soon as the wine begins to speak in a clear voice, a real feast for the senses. A superb old-vines Grenache. |
