Crianza red wine from La Rioja. Varietal old-vines Grenache aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and concrete eggs.
Availability: In stock
Altough it is not typically associated with La Rioja, the Grenache variety has a long history in the region. This is nicely exemplified by the red wine Gómez Cruzado Pancrudo, which shows just how good an old-vines Grenache from la Rioja can be.
One of the bottlings of the Selección Terroir collection of top-shelf wines of bodega Gómez Cruzado, this varietal Spanish red wine is sourced from a bunch of old north-oriented vineyards composed of iron-rich clay soils sitting at 650 metres of altitude, in the vicinity of Barandán, a village in Alto Najerilla.
Harvested in big boxes and sorted on arriving at the premises, the grapes were traditionally vinified in stainless steel tanks, with very gentle punch-downs not to extract too much tannin and colour.
After that, the red wine Gómez Cruzado Pancrudo 2021 completed the malo in French oak barrels (65%) and concrete eggs (35%) and was aged for a period of 12 months. Before hitting the market, this Crianza red wine was kept for some years in the cellar.
Decant this old vines Grenache 1 hour before drinking.

Nose | This varietal Grenache from La Rioja is rich, almost intoxicating, with decadent aromas of Marraschino cherries, ripe wild strawberries, liquorice and vanilla, underscored by notes of wet earth, dark chocolate, red flowers and Moroccan leather. |
Palate | Lush and hedonistic, this red wine of the Gómez Cruzado winery has a solid tannic structure, a steely acidity and an impressive concentration of red cherry fruit, with plenty of élan and vitality. Very long finish with hints of paprika, flowers and Eastern spices. |
Our personal opinion | The red wine Gómez Cruzado Pancrudo 2021 successfully combines Rioja tipicity with southern Rhône opulence. |
