Red Wine Joan d’Anguera Vinya de la Glòria 2016
Availability: Out of stock
A compelling Spanish red wine from DO Montsant, Joan d’Anguera Vinya de la Glòria is one of the finest, but lesser known, varietal Grenache wines produced in the country.
Demeter-certified, this organic and biodynamic red wine is sourced from three plots with limestone and sandy-loam soils planted over 50 years ago in the Finca L'Argatà estate by Glòria, the tenant farmer after which the wine is named.
Produced by the Demeter-certified bodega Joan d’Anguera, one of the most forward-looking and terroir-oriented wineries in Montsant, the grapes were sourced by hand and meticulously selected.
After that, they went into concrete diposits and were macerated undestemmed for 15 to 20 days, after which they fermented spontaneously with native yeasts for about 3 weeks.
Subsequently, Joan d’Anguera Vinya de la Glòria 2016 was transferred into used French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 24 months.
Finally, this organic red wine from Montsant was bottled and aged for a further 12 months before hitting the market.
Decant at least 40 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Joan d’Anguera Vinya de la Glòria is deep ruby with a garnet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Detailed, layered and amazingly complex, this old-vines Grenache has a deeply mineral backbone reminiscent of flint and limestone, intertwined with pristine red berries, a note aromatic herbs and garrigue worthy of the finest Châteauneuf du Pape, and subtle underpinnings of spices and menthol. |
Palate | This wine of bodega Joan d'Anguera is powerful and impressively balanced, with exquisite definition and a mineral intricacy which conveys a unique sense of place. Really deep, with chiseled tannins, mouthwatering acidity and exquisite fruit, seguing into ethereal floral bouquet and a very long finish. |
Our personal opinion | An outstanding effort, Joan d’Anguera Vinya de la Glòria 2016 is without question one of the absolute best Grenache wines from Montsant. |
