Red Wine La Bienquerida 2020
Availability: In stock
The flagship product of Bodega Losada Vinos de Finca, the wine La Bienquerida shows why El Bierzo is nowadays probably the most interesting of all Spanish wine regions.
A blend of Mencía and other red varieties, this single vineyard red wine from El Bierzo is produced from over 100-year-old vines - planted, to be precise, in the year 1906.
The harvest was carried out by hand. Once in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed, slightly crushed and macerated, after which this Spansish red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts.
After that, the wine La Bienquerida 2020 was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 40% new and 60% 2nd year. Finally, the wine was gently clarified. It was neither cold stabilized nor fined before its bottling.
We suggest that you decant this Crianza red wine at the very least 30 minutes before drinking.
We encourage you not to judge this Spanish red wine by its rather off-putting label. This is a truly outstanding effort.
Appearance | The red wine La Bienquerida is deep ruby with a purple rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Complex and terroir-focused, this Mencía is deeply mineral and floral, with some pristine notes of mulberries and bilberries, hitns of spices, white pepper and cocoa, a ferrous tone typical of the variety, and that characterstic aroma of wet stones known as petricor. |
Palate | Despite being quite impressive already, this wine from Bodega Losada Vinos de Finca is just beginning to unfold its potential. There is a seamless combination of intensity and finesse here, with a real sense of place and plenty of detail and nuance. The unique character of the Bierzo region truly comes to the fore: profoundly mineral, with a ferrous-sanguine note and compelling suggestions of flowers and wild berries. |
Our personal opinion | It is no exaggeration to say that the red wine La Bienquerida 2020 is absolutely world-class. |
