Details

This is the new vintage of the wine La Florens, a remarkable wine of bodega Josep Grau Viticultor which enjoys a considerable reputation among those in the know.

A varietal Grenache, this Spanish red wine from DO Montsant is sourced from two parcels with limestone soils planted with vines 80 to 100 years old, farmed following the guidelines of organic and biodynamic agriculture.

After a meticulous harvest, this red wine from Montsant was fermented in concrete diposits with indigenous yeasts

Then the wine La Florens 2022 was transferred into 2,500-litre Stockinger wooden vats from Austria, where it was aged for 14 months.

Decant this Crianza red wine at least 1 hour before drinking.

12,478 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine La Florens is mediun purple with some violet glints.

Nose

This enticing old-vines Grenache exhibits remarkably pure aromas of raspberries, Amarena cherries, scrubland and Mediterranean herbs, with hints of lilacs and violets and a fleck of pencil lead over a mineral background. Impressively complex and refined.

Palate

Freshness and precision are the key features of this wine from Josep Grau Viticultor. Pristine notes of wild berries, intense mineral undertones, remembrances of blue flowers and lavender and some balsamic and metallic hints. Lively tannins and a long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Fresh, site-specific and refined, the wine La Florens 2022 goes far beyond the cliché of what a Mediterranean wine is supposed to be.

Right now, I consider this wine to be on a par with some first-class Grenaches from Chateneuf du Pape. If Florens ages well, it will become a truly great wine.

As an old fan of Montsant reds, I think this is maybe the BEST wine to come out of the region since Espectacle. Mr. Josep Grau has something very nice here, and if he continues to refine his winemaking approach the result will be a killer wine.
