Red Wine La Llopetera 2022
Availability: In stock
Produced by the Escoda-Sanahuja winery, a pioneer in the production of natural wine in Catalonia, the wine La Llopetera is a varietal Pinot Noir from DO Conca de Barberà.
A single parcel Spanish red wine, the vines are planted in calcareous soils at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level. All of the farming operations follow the principles of biodynamic agriculture.
Once in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed prior to macerating and fermenting with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks.
After that, the wine La Llopetera 2022 was transferred into French oak barrels, where this no sulfites added red wine was aged for 6 months.
Finally, this organic red wine was bottled with no prior clarification or stabilization.
Decant this low-sulfite wine 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine La Llopetera is medium ruby with a violet rim, very clean and bright. |

Nose | It is very important to aerate this Pinot Noir, because the wine opens quite tight. After a while, though, it becomes very expressive, with pristine aromas of red fruit and notes of flowers, underbrush and wet earth, together with a -very mild- "bretty" note of leather and barnyard. There is also a gently mineral background and a toasted remembrance. |
Palate | Subtle and well-balanced, this low-sulfur wine conclusively proves that the Escoda-Sanahuja winery winemaking team have fine-tuned its craft over the years. Excellent acidity, with silky tannins and a character which succeds in being raw and inviting at the same time. Raspberries, bitter cocoa and coffee, with a pinch of toast and burning match. Long finish. |
Our personal opinion | Complex and appealingly radical, the wine La Llopetera 2022 is a terroir-bound Pinot Noir which successfully defies wine conventionalism. |
