Availability: In stock
The flagship Spanish red wine of Bodegas Bilbaínas, La Vicalanda Gran Reserva showcases the old-school elegance of La Rioja.
Made solely from Tempranillo, this gran reserva red wine is produced from 25 to 35-year-old bushvines planted in three vineyards with limestone and rocky soils: Cuervo 4, Vicuana and Zaco.
Hand-picked and selected on site and in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed, gently crushed and vinified in stainless steel tanks. After completing both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, La Vicalanda Gran Reserva 2016 was transferred into 70% new, medium-toasted French oak barrels from Allier and aged for a period of 24 months.
After that, this Gran Reserva from La Rioja was bottled and aged for a further 36 months before hitting the market.
Aerate this remarkable red wine from Rioja Alta at least 1 hour before drinking.

Nose | Seasoned by the years, this varietal Tempranillo is nonetheless energetic and full of life. Damson, bluberry pie and cassis, with notes of eucaliptus, violets and Eastern spices, combined with hints of smoke, toast and dry earth. |
Palate | This wine from Bodegas Bilbaínas is flavourful, fruit-forward and spicy, with notes of black fruit, liquorice and vanilla, a stupendous acidity and some smooth, round tannins. Long, complex finish with some balsamic, toasted and mineral remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | A must-drink for Rioja lovers, La Vicalanda Gran Reserva 2016 is simply exquisite. |
