Red Wine Lacima 2020
Crianza red wine from Ribeira Sacra. Blend of Mencía and other local varieties aged for 24 months in French oak barrels and for 6 months in vats.
Availability: In stock
The wine Lacima from bodega Dominio do Bibei is one of DO Ribeira Sacra’s best reds. This is a deeply Atlantic, compelling Spanish red wine.
Made from roughly 70% Mencía, this red wine from Ribeira Sacra is complemented with the local varieties Mouratón, Brancellao, Alicante Bouschet and Sousón. The grapes are sourced from 60 to 110- year-old vines, planted on steep slopes with clay, sand and schist soils, at 300 to 700 metres of altitude.
Harvest of this Crianza red wine was carried out by hand from September to October, selecting the grapes on site and upon arriving at the premises. The fully destemmed grapes were macerated before fermenting in French oak vats and barrels, after which they went through malolactic fermentation in 300- litre oak barrels.
After that, the red wine Lacima 2020 was aged for 24 months in used French oak barrels; then it was aged for 6 months in big vats before being bottled. Finally, this red wine from Ribeira Sacra was stored for a further 16 months before hitting the market.
To fully appreciate its qualities, we suggest decanting this old vines Mencía 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Lacima is deep ruby with some violet reflections. |
---|---|
Nose | Complex and quite profound, this blend of Mencía, Mouratón, Brancellao, Alicante Bouschet and Sousón merges Atlantic freshness with an exquisitely ripe black fruit, evolving into crème de cassis, toast and spices, with some vegetal hints and a note of wet slate and blue flowers. |
Palate | Refined and expressive, with great precision and exquisite ripeness, conveying a real sense of place. This wine of Dominio do Bibei winery is rather intoxicating on the palate, with pitch-perfect acidity, powdery tannins and long, spicy finish with a deep and smokey mineral aftertaste. |
Our personal opinion | The wine Lacima 2020 is a prime exponent of Ribeira Sacra, the most interesting terroir of Atlantic Spain. |
