Product Description
Details

We are happy to present the new vintage of the wine Lalama. This is one of Ribeira Sacra's most sought-after Spanish red wines.

Made from 85% Mencía, this Spanish red wine is complemented with 15% of the indigenous varieties Brancellao, Mouratón, Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet), The grapes come from 15 to 100-year-old vines, grown at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, in heterogeneous soils.

After the harvest, the grapes were selected and destemmed. After a brief maceration, the wine was fermented in trunk-conical tanks of different measures.

Malolactic fermentation took place in 300-litre French oak barrels, after which this Crianza red wine was drawn-off, transferred into a series of differently aged French oak barrels and aged for 15 months.

After that, the wine Lalama 2021 of the Dominio do Bibei winery spent a further 3 months in 45-hectolitre trunk-conical tanks. Naturally stabilized, the wine was bottled and finally aged for a further 5 months in the cellar prior to its release.

We suggest that you decant this red wine from Ribeira Sacra 30 minutes before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Lalama is medium ruby with some reddish tinges.

Nose

Exquisite and expressive nose, full of juicy red fruit, wild berries, and some game and blood aromas, blue flowers, vegetals and some undergrowth hints. In the background, this blend of Mencía, Brancellao, Mouratón, Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera insinuates some touches of smoke and balsam.

Palate

Amazingly fresh, this red wine of the Dominio do Bibei winery is medium-bodied, with an exceptional acidity and well integrated tannins. Notes of red berries, orange rind, wet earth, remembrances of pomegranate and blood orange, some mineral undertones and also a forest-like suggestions. Long finish with remembrances of wild berries and a mineral note.

Our personal opinion

The exciting wine Lalama 2021 is an Atlantic-style red that stands comparison with much more expensive wines from other parts of the world.

I drank this in Galicia while visiting Ribeira Sacra, one of the craziest vineyards in the world with some impossible slopes. Similar to some French wines from the Loire, but with more energy.
