Red Wine Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau 2016
Availability: In stock
One of the bottlings of the "Singularities" collection, Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau is produced by the Orto Vins winery, run by master oenologist Joan Asens.
This small-production red wine from Montsant is the most singular of all the wines that compose the collection. In fact, one could justifiably say that this Spanish red wine is unlike any other wine in the world.
Why? Because it is a varietal Picapoll Negre, an extremely rare grape variety indigenous to Catalonia and Southern France.
Moreover, the wine comes from a single, ungrafted, pre-phylloxeric, 0.2 hectare vineyard planted in 1880 in the heart of the Montsant region. The vines are farmed with the utmost care, following strict organic and biodynamic procedures.
After a meticulous harvest, this varietal Crianza red wine was fermented in 500-litre barrels for over a period of 28 days, that is, over a complete lunar cycle.
After that, Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau 2016 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and for a further months in the cellar prior to its release.
Extremely limited production.
Appearance | The red wine Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau is medium ruby with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | This varietal Picapoll Negre is alluringly pure and expressive. Pristine aromas of wild berries, pomegranates and strawberries, along with enticing notes of lilacs, violets, broom, spices and balsam. |
Palate | This red wine from Orto Vins is so precise, lively and evocative that leaves one speechless. Crisp acidity, mild tannins and a floral, dreamy character. Spices, balsam, liquor, flowers and fruit combine in a most harmonious and understated way, leading up to a memorable finish. |
Our personal opinion | As subtle as the great Pinots from Burgundy, Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau 2016 is simply magical. A rare jewel. |
