Red Wine Luis Cañas Gran Reserva 2016
Availability: In stock
A classic wine from Bodega Luis Cañas, a household name in La Rioja, Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is produced from the best grapes coming from over 50-year-old vineyards located in La Rioja Alavesa.
It is made from a traditional blend of Tempranillo and Graciano. Both varieties were selected on site, destemmed selected again, after which this Spanish red wine was fermented under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks for 2-3 weeks.
Then this red wine from La Rioja wine was transferred into 2nd year French (70%) and American oak barrels (30%), where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 24 months.
Bottled in February 2018, Luis Cañas Gran Reserva 2016 was further aged for 48 months before its commercial release.
We suggest that you aerate this Gran Reserva red wine 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance | The red wine Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is medium ruby with a garnet rim. |

Nose | Complex and multilayered, this blend of Tempranillo and Graciano smells of pure, ripe black fruit and red fruit, underscored by a layer of mineral and earthy remembrances. There are also some notes of fine wood and spices, with a touch of leather and some smokey and floral nuances. |
Palate | This wine of Bodega Luis Cañas is well-balanced and delicately warm. It shows great vitality, with wild berries, a touch of creme de cassis and remembrances of toast, balsam and spices. The tasty tannins and the crisp acidity suggest that the wine will have a long life. Long finish with a smokey aftertaste. |
Our personal opinion | Elegantly complex and precise, Luis Cañas Gran Reserva 2016 will probably become one of our favourite Rioja wines - that is, if it is not already. |
