Availability: In stock
The second bottling of the joint venture between world-renowned Bodegas Vega Sicilia and the late Benjamin de Rothschild, the red wine Macán Clásico aims to convey the purest essence of the Tempranillo variety from La Rioja. The 2021 vintage has a smidgen of Grenache.
The grapes are sourced from 100 hectares of vineyards with limestone and clay-limestone soils situated at roughly 500 metres of altitude and planted with vines around 30 years old.
This varietal Spanish red wine was traditionally vinified. The grapes were first cold-soaked for 3-4 days and then they fermented in stainless steel tanks with 50% native yeasts.
After that, this red wine from La Rioja was aged for 12 months in 40% new French oak barrels, 5% new American oak barrels, 30% 2nd year oak barrels and 25% stainless steel tanks.
Bottled in August 2023, the wine Macán Clásico 2021 was aged for a further 18 months before being released onto the market.
Decant this Reserva red wine some time before drinking.

Nose | Fresh and expressive, this Tempranillo with a dollop of Grenache carries subtle aromas of red and forest berries, with hints of paprika and crunchy bacon, hints of cinnamon and cedar and a note of wet earth, mint and toast. |
Palate | This wine of Bodegas Vega Sicilia and Benjamin de Rothschild already shows a noteworthy complexity. Medium-bodied and velvety-textured, with slim tannins, good definition and lots of room for growth. Finish is very long, with a cedary and smokey note. |
