We are proud to present the fascinating wine MarLa Peculiar Criança, recently - and aptly – described by an American wine writer as “the equivalent of a mic drop.”
This varietal Spanish white wine is made by Sandra Doix, former oenologist of famed bodega Mas Doix, who in 2019 started her own wine project in DOQ Priorat.
One of the bottlings of the MarLa collection, which comprises Sandra’s top-shelf wines, this white wine from Priorat is sourced from a tiny plot planted with 65-year-old Pedro Ximénez vines on the near the village of Poboleda, in Priorat’s freshest area. Native to south Spain, the Pedro Ximénez variety is producing stunning results in Priorat, where it was introduced around a century ago.
After a meticulous vinification, the white wine MarLa Peculiar Criança 2021 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
We suggest decanting this Crianza white wine some time before drinking.

Appearance | The white wine MarLa Peculiar Criança is medium gold with some bright reflections. |
---|---|
Nose | The complexity and finesse of this Pedro Ximénez are simply astonishing. Fennel, petrol and herbs de Provence, with notes of apricot and peach, some salty and green olive intimation, a metallic and mineral edge to the fruit and subtle notes of dry flowers and spices. |
Palate | Detailed and richly layered, this wine by Sandra Doix winery has a stylish, citrusy acidity carrying a fleshy core of bone fruit with some salty and smokey notes. Hints of bitter herbs, exotic spices and petrol, ending with a salty-briney finish. Wonderful stuff! |
Our personal opinion | The wine MarLa Peculiar Criança 2021 is a game-changer for Priorat whites. |
