Red Wine Marqués de Vargas Reserva 2014
Availability: Out of stock
A modern classic from Rioja, Marqués de Vargas Reserva is made from a blend of Tempranillo, Mazuelo (Carignan) and Grenache.
It was produced by the Marqués de Vargas winery from vines 35 years old on average. They are farmed following environmentally friendly practices that exclude the use of chemicals, herbicides and insecticides.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs and punch-downs.
After 12 days, this red wine from La Rioja underwent malolactic fermentation and was transferred into new and used French and Russian oak barrels.
There, this Spanish red wine was aged for 18 months. During the process, it was drawn off every 5-6 months. Finally, the wine was bottled unclarified and unfiltered, and subsequently aged for a further 24 months in the bottle prior to its release.
Decant Marqués de Vargas Reserva 2014 at least 45 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Marqués de Vargas Reserva has a dark cherry colour with a ruby rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Aromas of cranberries and mulberries, nuanced by aromas of spices, cocoa, remembrances of Havanna cigars, cedar and toast, typical of a Reserva red wine from La Rioja. On the background, hints of aromatic herbs, licorice and balsam. |
Palate | Smooth and silky, this wine of Bodega Marqués de Vargas exhibits lively notes of red fruit, with remembrances of menthol, underbrush, exotic spices and cocoa. Well-balanced acidity, mellow tannins and medium, slightly bitter, elegant finish. |
Our personal opinion | The Spanish red wine Marqués de Vargas Reserva 2014 is a serious wine from Rioja that, already drinking wonderfully, has some very good years ahead of it. |
