Red Wine Martelo Reserva 2019

Availability: In stock
Made by bodega Torre de Oña, a brand of Grupo La Rioja Alta, the wine Martelo Reserva is produced from vines grown in Páganos, near the village of Laguardia, in some of the best terroirs of Rioja Alavesa.
It is worth noting that this Spanish red wine is only produced in the vintages considered outstanding by the company's head winemaker, Julio Sáenz.
Made basically from Tempranillo, the variety is complemented with small amounts of Mazuela, Grenache and Viura, which together make for 5% of the final blend. The grapes come from over 60-year-old vineyards located on mild slopes oriented north-south, a fact which allows for an slow, steady ripening of the fruit.
The grapes were picked by hand and refrigerated on arriving at the cellar. Then they were destemmed, gently crushed and cold-macerated for 7 days to enhance the expression of their aromatic compounds. After completing alcoholic fermentation, this Reserva red wine was transferred into 80% new American oak barrels, and 20% new French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation was carried out for over 98 days.
Finally, the red wine Martelo Reserva 2016 was aged for 24 month in the barrels, with 4 rackings along the process.
Intense and terroir-oriented, this red wine from Rioja Alavesa will pair excellently with hearty dishes.

Nose | Deep and complex, this blend of Tempranillo, Mazuela, Grenache and Viura smells of sour cherries, mulberries and blackcurrants, with a nice, original note of rhubarb. There is a subtle background of clove, vanilla, licorice and dark chocolate, and some remembrances of herbs and dry earth. |
Palate | This wine from bodega Torre de Oña displays a classic elegance, with noblesse, freshness and an excellent definition. Bridled tannins, crisp acidity and long, complex finish, with some spicy and balsamic remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | We suggest that you combine the red wine Martelo Reserva 2019 with game dishes, casseroles and cold cuts. |
