Red Wine Mas La Plana 2018
Availability: In stock
A varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, Mas La Plana is an absolutely iconic Spanish red wine produced by Bodegas Torres. It is one of the bottlings of the Antologia Miguel Torres collection, which comprises the top-tier wines of the winery.
The legend was born when, in the 1979 wine contest "Les Olympiades du Vin" organized by the "Gault-Millau" magazine, the 1970 vintage of this red wine from Penedès, which then bore the name "Torres Gran Coronas Etiqueta Negra", defeated in a blind tasting wines such as Château Latour 1970, Château Pichon-Lalande 1964, and the monumental Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1961.
Sourced solely from the Mas La Plana estate, a 29-hectare vineyard with clayey and loamy soils situated in the heart of DO Penedès, the 2018 harvest began on September 25. Meticulously selected, the grapes were first macerated for 15 to 25 days and then they were fermented under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks for 7 days..
After that, Mas La Plana 2018 was aged for 18 months in 65% new French oak barrels. It was bottled in October 2020..
Needless to say, this Crianza red wine will improve considerably over the next years.
Aerate this red wine from Penedès at least 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance | The red wine Mas La Plana is medium purple with a garnet rim. |

Nose | Nuanced and detailed, this Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès effortlessly combines some deep mineral notes, delicate spicy tips and dash of blackcurrants and blackberries. There are flecks of tobacco and fine leather, and some gentle earthy overtones. |
Palate | This red wine of Bodegas Torres is crisp, nuanced and detailed. It packs first-class black fruit -mulberries, bilberries- with a gentle wooden note and a clear terroir imprint. Acidity is excellent, with some smooth tannins and a very long finish with some spicy and mineral remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | Once again, Mas Plana 2018 lives up to its legend. A magnificent single estate wine from Penedès. |
