Red Wine Mas Vilella 2016
Availability: In stock
This hedonistic Mediterranean red, Mas Vilella, is produced by Acústic Celler basically from Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small amount of the exceedingly interesting indigenous Sumoll variety.
The Cabernet vineyards are located in the Mas Vilella estate, near La Bisbal del Penedès. The low-yielding vines are about 30 years old and are planted in the foothills of the Montmell mountains, at an altitude between 220 and 280 metres above sea level. Soils are composed of sand and limestone.
The grapes were picked by hand and macerated for over a period of 15 days. Then this Spanish red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature.
Once the process was completed, Mas Vilella 2016 was transferred into new French oak barrels, where it underwent a partial malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.
Appearance | The red wine Mas Vilella is bright cherry with a garnet rim. |

Nose | Enhanced by the high-acidic, characterful Sumoll, the Cabernet Sauvignon shows tremendous elegance here, displaying clean notes of red fruits, some jammy touches, hints of Mediterranean forest and even some incense remembrances. In the background, some balsamic notes, touches of vanilla and hints of red flowers. |
Palate | Meaty, but not at all heavy, with ripe fruit and notes of vanilla and cocoa. Tight, tense and well-structured, with a smooth texture and lively tannins. This wine of Acústic Celler has a long, spicy finish with some woodland undertones, one of Sumoll's trademarks. |
Our personal opinion | Previous vintages of Mas Vilella 2016 always showed a light, Atlantic character that has reached its peak in this wonderful vintage. |
