Red Wine Masia Serra IO 2019
Availability: In stock
Made by the Masia Serra winery from 20-year-old vineyards, Masia Serra IO comes from DO Empordà, Catalonia's northernmost wine region. The area is constantly swept by theTramuntana, a strong northern wind which acts like a natural sanitary agent.
A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Grenache sourced from certified organic vines, the grapes were handpicked, destemmed and gently crushed.
The alcoholic fermentation of this Spanish red wine took place in stainless steel tanks, and the solid cape of grape skins was periodically punched down to enhance extraction of colour and aromas.
After that, Masia Serra IO 2019 was aged in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels for 12 months.
Incidentally, IO is believed to be the exclamation of joy uttered by the Greek women who worshipped Dionysus, the god of wine.
Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Masia Serra IO is deep purple with a violet rim. |

Nose | This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Grenache is very intense, with aromas of red berries, Mediterranean undergrowth and some oaky touches. There is an underlying minerality, with notes of balsam and sweet spices. |
Palate | Bold and fresh, this wine from Masia Serra has ripe tannins, a tense acidity and a mineral core. Red fruit and some vegetal notes, with a deep earthy sensation coming from the rugged terroir. This red wine from Empordà has a medium-long finish with some spicy and toasted remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | The little-known Masia Serra IO 2019 is utterly Mediterranean and, at the same time, extremely fresh. |
