Red Wine Masroig 2018
Availability: In stock
The flaghsip wine of Celler Masroig, Masroig is a first-rate, terroir-bound wine.
A varietal Carignan, this Spanish red wine is sourced from two estate vineyards located in the heart DO Montsant: Els Romeus, close to the Siurana River and with pebble stone soils, and Mas d'en Nadal, a north-oriented plot with clayey soils.
After completing alcoholic fermentation and a 25-day skin maceration in stainless steel tanks, this red wine from Montsant underwent malolactic fermentation in 2.000-litre French oak vats, where it was subsequently aged for 18 months.
Then this Crianza red wine was gently filtered, bottled and further aged in the cellar before its commercial release.
Decant Masroig 2018 a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Only 2,403 numbered bottles produced.
Appearance | Intense and dark, the red wine Masroig is medium purple with some garnet tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Elegant and complex, with the trademark depth and elegance of a very old-vines Carignan. Fruit is ripe and juicy, and there are some notes Mediterranean garrigue, bitter cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and some dim suggestions of leather an tobacco leaves over a herbal and mineral background. |
Palate | Bold and palate-coating, with plenty of élan and vitality. Smooth-textured, with an excellent definition, ripe tannins and a steely acidity. This red wine of Celler Masroig has a very long finish with an afertaste of toast, violets and liquorice, nuanced by expressive earthy and mineral overtones. |
Our personal opinion | Once again, Carignan proves that it conveys like no other grape the terroir of Montsant. Masroig 2018 is an excellent wine which will probably become a great one over the next years. |
