White Wine Naiades 2018
Availability: In stock
This is the new vintage of Naiades, one of the absolute best Verdejo wines from DO Rueda.
Produced by Bodegas Naia, this Spanish white wine is sourced from very old, low-yielding vineyards composed of sandy soils.
All of the vines are over 80 years of age, with some of them being up 130 years old. This oldest vines, incidentally, are prephylloxeric and thus ungrafted. In other words, they are, so to speak, hardwired to the soil.
The grapes were meticulously vinified and, once in the cellar, they were first underwent a cold-maceration of the whole bunches. After that, they were destemmed and fermented in light-toasted French oak barrels.
Finally, Naiades 2018 was aged on its lees in those same barrels for 7 months with periodic stirrings.
Aerate this white wine from Rueda some time before drinking.
13,000 bottles produced.
Appearance | The white wine Naiades is medium yellow with some greenish tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Notes of aniseed, white and yellow fruit, and citrus. In the background, this Verdejo suggests some hints of biscuits, aromatic herbs, spices, straw, fennel and dry earth. This white wine fermented in oak has a complex, ever-evolving nose. |
Palate | Smooth and unctuous, this wine from Bodegas Naia has considerable depth and complexity. Notions of pastry, smoke, medlar, kumquat, lychee, bitter herbs and citrus. Great acidity and a delicately warm, persistent finish with some remembrances of aniseed and cream. |
Our personal opinion | Complex and savoury, Naiades 2018 is an elegant, deep expression of the Verdejo grape. Try it with a Spanish rice with lobster and a drop of truffle oil. Divinely decadent. |
