Details

The Pago de Carraovejas winery originally produced the wine Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Nowadays, this remarkable Spanish red wine is one of the stars of the DO Ribera del Duero.

The 2020 vintage is made basically from Tinto Fino (aka Tempranillo), with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot. All of them come from El Anejón, a 9,43-hectare vineyard with clay-limestone soils planted in 2001 on steep slopes at roughly 800 metres above sea level.

After a meticulous harvest carried out by hand with selection both on site an in the cellar, the grapes of this red wine from Ribera del Duero were fermented in French "Haute Futaie" oak vats with indigenous yeasts.

After that, the red wine Pago Carraovejas El Anejón 2020 was aged for 12 months in 600-litre French oak barrels.

Clarified with egg whites and bottled in the spring of 2022, this single vineyard wine was finally aged for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle prior to its commercial release.

Decant this Crianza red wine a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine  Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is medium purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

Intense aromatic complexity, suggestive and entrancing. This blend of Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot opens with some balsamic and underbrush notes,  evolving into juicy black fruit, blue flowers, notes of bitter cocoa and Havanna cigars, and some spicy and mineral undertones.

Palate

The wine enters gently onto the palate, with its surprisingly floral character being underscored by an exceptional, rock-solid acidity. Texture is lush and velvety, and tannins are almost fully integrated. This wine of Pago de Carraovejas has a long, ever-evolving finish with a deeply toasted and mineral aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

One of the best wines produced in Ribera del Duero, the red wine Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón 2020 will provide a memorable drinking experience.
