Red Wine Palell 2014
Availability: In stock
A single vineyard Spanish red wine with a production of less than 1,000 bottles, Palell is one of the bottlings of the "Les Singularitats d'Orto" collection.
Produced by master winemaker Joan Asens through his personal project, the Orto Vins winery, this Crianza red wine is indeed a singular one, as it is solely made from Hairy Grenache, a mutation of the Grenache variety indigenous to Catalonia.
Hairy Grenache produces misterious, delightfully introspective wines which differ considerably from those made from Grenache, more fruit-driven and expansive.
This varietal red wine from Montsant is sourced solely from a 65-year-old vineyard located in DO Montsant and farmed following organic and biodynamic procedures.
Meticulously harvested and vinified, Palell 2014 was fermented in 500-litre oak vats for a period of 28 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in 3rd and 4th year oak barrels, after which the wine was aged for 12 months.
This varietal Crianza red wine is a much sought-after jewel.
Decant 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Palell is medium ruby with a reddish rim and some purple glints. |

Nose | Slippery, kaleidoscopic notes of wild berries, along with flowers, aniseed, juniper, balsam, undergrowth, menthol and wet earth. This varietal Hairy Grenache from Montsant also suggests some dim mineral undertones and some toasted aromas. |
Palate | Extremely delicate at first, but growing in confidence as it traverses the palate. This red wine of the Orto Vins winery has some lively tannins, a solid backbone of acidity and notes of balsam, ripe fruit, spices and flowers underpinned by a wonderful minerality. Long, enticing finish. |
Our personal opinion | Another gem from the Les Singularitats d'Orto collection, Palell 2014 is elegant and sensuous. |
