Red Wine Payoya Negra 2021
Availability: In stock
The main goal of the Finca La Melonera project, a brand of Grupo Perelada, is to recover some long-forgotten native grapes from the area of DO Sierras de Málaga.
The wine Payoya Negra is made from Syrah and the local varieties Tintilla de Rota and the little-known Romé.
The grapes were separately harvested in tiny, 7-kg. boxes. Then this Spanish red wine was macerated and fermented in concrete eggs.
After that, this red wine from Málaga was aged in French oak vats from Allier for 12 months. Finally, the wine Payoya Negra 2021 was aged for a further months in the cellar before its release.
Decant this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
Incidentally, "Payoya" is the name of an indigenous goat breed from the Ronda Mountains. That goat breed also gives its name to Payoyo, an absolutely superb cheese made from its milk.
Appearance | The red wine Payoya Negra is deep ruby some purple tinges. |

Nose | Rich aromas of toast and dry earth, underpinned by notes of juicy red and black fruit, sweet spices, balsam, flowers and an idiosyncratic note of wild underbrush define this blend of Syrah, Tintilla de Rota and Romé. |
Palate | This red wine of Finca La Melonera is balanced and quite complex. Kirsch liquor, raspeberries, some lactic remembrances and some hints of aromatic herbs, blue flowers, vegetables and spices. Excellent acidity, ripe tannins and an overall fresh character. Long, fruity finish. |
Our personal opinion | From the still largely unknown region of Sierras de Málaga, the wine Payoya Negra 2021 simply oozes personality. |
