Red Wine Phinca Lali 2019
Availability: In stock
Considered one of the leading voices of the new, terroir-oriented Rioja, winemaker David Sampedro Gil, head of DSG Vineyards, calls the wine Phinca Lali "my most complex wine."
Made basically from Tempranillo, this Spanish red wine is complemented with a 10% of Viura (aka Macabeo). The grapes come from a 0.3 hectare plot farmed following the guidelines of biodynamic agriculture. Planted in 1910 near Elvillar, Álava, the vineyard had been forgotten for decades until it was saved from oblivion by David Sampedro a few years ago.
Harvested on a fruit day according to the lunar calendar, the partially destemmed grapes went into 500-litre open oak barrels, where they were macerated, gently stomped and spontaneously fermented with native yeasts. Then the wine Phinca Lali 2019 was transferred into 225-litre French oak barrels, where it was aged for 36 months. Again, this organic red wine was bottled following the lunar calendar.
Decant this single vineyard red wine at least 1 hour before drinking.
This is a sought-after, limited production Crianza red wine.
1,404 bottles produced.
Appearance | The red wine Phincas Lali is medium cherry with a garnet rim |

Nose | This blend of Tempranillo and Viura has a captivating purity and an intoxicating complexity. Lavender, spices, wet stone and black truffle, alongside very lively aromas of red and black forest berries. |
Palate | Solid and structured, but with an overall sensation of suppleness and grace. Balance and freshness are simply spectacular, with noble tannins and a steely acidity. This wine from Bodega Bhilar - DSG Vineyards is intricate and ever-evolving. It conveys a real sense of place, with a very long finish and an arresting terroir remebrance. |
Our personal opinion | The stupendous wine Phinca Lali 2019 shows what can be achieved when a Burgundian approach to terroir is put to work in La Rioja. |
