Product Description
Details

This is the new vintage of this rare Spanish red wine from La Rioja. Indeed, the wine San Vicente is the only varietal Tempranillo Peludo ("Hairy Tempranillo") available on the market.

A delicate and refined variety, Tempranillo Peludo was rescued from an almost sure extinction by the Señorío de San Vicente winery in the early 1980s. This winery is located next to its vineyards in the city of San Vicente de La Sonsierra, in Rioja Alavesa.

After a meticulous harvest in which the grapes were selected on site and in the cellar, the fruit was manually destemmed and fermented for 10 days with their skins, with two pump-overs performed daily.

After a maceration period, this Reserva red wine underwent malolactic fermentation in 90% French and 10% American oak barrels.

After that, the wine San Vicente 2020 was aged for 20 months, during which period it was drawn-off every 4 months. It was aged for a further months in the bottle before its commercial release.

Decant this red wine from La Rioja a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine San Vicente is deep ruby with a garnet edge.

Nose

The nose of this varietal Tempranillo Peludo winery is exuberant and elegant. Pristine aromas of  wild raspberries and blackberries that, as the wine opens, develop into notes of vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood, seguing into after eight mints, fresh fragrant cigars, aromas of flowers and mineral undertones.

Palate

Flavorful, textured and full of nuance, this wine of bodega Señorío de San Vicente has a remarkable complexity. Good acidity, excellent oak integration and long finish with an aftertaste of spices and herbs over a mineral background. Impressive ageing potential.

Our personal opinion

The cult wine San Vicente 2020 is simply spellbinding.

I was curious about this 'hairy tempranillo' and was not disappointed. It is veeeery smooth, with no tension or rough corners, and an immensely pleasurable fruit.
