Red Wine Tridente Prieto Picudo 2020
Availability: In stock
Made from an indigenous, long-forgotten red variety, the red wine Tridente Prieto Picudo comes from León, he northernmost province of the region of Castilla y León. Though the grape is difficult to grow, it produces wines with a great acidity and a remarkable ageing potential.
This Spanish red wine from Bodegas Tridente, a brand of Gil Family Estates, is sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1930 in the village of Pajares de los Oteros. The old Prieto Picudo bushvines yield less than 1,5 kg. per plant.
Harvested at dawn, the grapes were gently destemmed and macerated in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature to extract aromatic and phenolic compounds. Alcoholic fermentation of this vegan wine was also carried out at a temperature below 25ºC to preserve varietal aromas.
After being transferred into French oak barrels, the wine Tridente Prieto Picudo 2020 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 18 months before being bottled.
We strongly recommend that you aerate this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before you drink it.
Appearance | The red wine Tridente Prieto Picudo from Castilla y León is deep purple with bluish-coloured rim. |

Nose | The wines made from Prieto Picudo tend to show an earthy, deep character. This Crianza red wine is no exception. Notes of wet earth and ripe red fruit, along with mineral hints and aromas of roasted coffee, cocoa and toast. |
Palate | This wine of Bodegas Tridente is muscular, meaty and earthy, with grainy tannins and a taut acidity, ending with a long, spicy finish with remembrances of earth and red berries. Wooden notes are present, but not prominent. |
Our personal opinion | Focused and tight, the acidity of Tridente Prieto Picudo 2020 balances its weight makes it a pleasure to drink. Great pairing with roasted meat recipes. |
