We are proud to present the 2019 vintage of the wine Valbuena 5º Año Cosecha, produced by the legendary Vega Sicilia winery.
An outstanding example of the Tinto Fino variety (aka Tempranillo), the grapes are sourced from some of the best terroirs in the region, located at altitudes between 700 and 900 metres. Covering 210 hectares in total, the vineyards are planted on mild slopes with limestone soils that impart a vibrant minerality to the wine. The vines are 35 years old on average, and in this occasion the Tinto Fino is complemented with a 3% Merlot, which only enhances the qualities of the former.
Meticulously vinified in the impressive state-of-the-art facility of bodega Vega Sicilia, one of the world’s most technologically advanced wineries, the grapes were sorted again before being cold-macerated for 3-4 days. Then this Spanish red wine was fermented under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts.
Subsequently, the red wine Valbuena 5º Año Cosecha 2019 was aged in new oak barrels and 21,000-litre oak vats. The first year the winery used a 5% of American oak to enhance the structure and creaminess of the wine. The second year, wood recipients were chosen so as to ameliorate the complexity and textural richness of the wine.
Bottled in June 2022, this red wine from Ribera del Duero was kept in the cellar until the completion of the 5-year process which gives the wine its name.
Decant this Reserva red wine at least 2 hours before drinking.
190,490 Bordeaux bottles and 5,581 magnums produced.

Nose | Surprisingly spicy -truly a walk through a Persian bazaar- this blend of Tinto Fino and Merlot is complex and balanced, with blackcurrants and mulberries intertwined with black pepper, coffee, cedar and tobacco, alongside some mineral and floral undertones. |
Palate | Detailed and effortless, this wine of bodega Vega Sicilia has a phenomenal acidity and a lush texture, with powdery tannins and a complexity that still needs time to fully unfold. Very long finish reminiscent of chocolate mint, vanilla and Moroccan leather. |
Our personal opinion | The absolutely splendid wine Valbuena 5º Año Cosecha 2019 has many good years ahead of it. |
