Red Wine Venus La Universal 2019

In the words of their creators, Sara Pérez and René Barbier, co-owners of the Venus La Universal winery, the red wine Venus La Universal is, among other things, an ode to femininity.
Moreover, it is also an uncompromisingly terroir-oriented Spanish red wine. An exquisite creation that aims to express the most gentle, delicate side of its land of origin, the DO Montsant.
Crafted from a quintessentially Mediterranean blend of old-vines Carignan and Grenache, the grapes come from 4 plots grown following the principles of organic farming.
Harvest was extremely meticulous, as each variety was collected at a different time depending on its ripening state. After a cold-soaking process, and being only partially destemmed, all of the grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats. Sporadic punch-downs were performed in order to foster the contact of this Crianza red wine with the grape skins.
Finally, Venus La Universal 2019 was aged for 6 months in 4,500-litre oak vats and for 27 months in 2,500-litre oak vats before its bottling.
We strongly suggest that you decant this red wine from Montsant a minimum of 1 hour before you drink it.
Appearance | The red wine Venus La Universal orange label is deep ruby with a violet rim. |

Nose | Tremendously expressive, this blend of Carignan and Grenache displays a rich panoply of fruit: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, plums, redcurrants and cassis, intertwined with hints of liquor-infused fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. There is also a fresh mineral background, over which we perceive aromas of freshly ground coffee, liquorice, Mediterranean undergrowth and aromatic herbs. Wow! |
Palate | Misterious and intriguing, this wine from Venus La Universal is a "nocturnal" wine, so to speak. Yummy, fresh and fruity, displaying an almost perfect balance between acidity, tannins and alcohol. Pure notes of red fruit, evocative hints of balsam and liquorice, a mineral backbone and a touch of bitter chocolate. Long, complex finish. |
Our personal opinion | Sophisticated and totally indigenous, Venus La Universal 2019 is one of the best wines produced in Montsant. Moreover, the wine also has a remarkable ageing potential, as some of its previous vintages have convincingly proven. |
